P.A. Parenteau will be looking to enter his eleventh season in the National Hockey League as a member of the Detroit Red Wings. The 34-year-old right winger has been jumping from team to team the past several seasons. He is on a tryout only deal in Detroit but hopes to make his stay in the motor city last.

The 6’0″, 200 pound forward has had quite the career thus far. In ten seasons, Parenteau has been a member of eight different clubs. He was originally drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft (264th pick) but never played a game in a Ducks uniform. He was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks where he spent the 2006-07 season, his first action in the NHL. In his rookie year, he skated in five games and tallied a lone assist. From there, Parenteau would play for the New York Rangers, New York Islanders, Colorado Avalanche, Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, New Jersey Devils, and most recently with the Nashville Predators, whom he just finished a remarkable Stanley Cup Final appearance run with.

In his career, Parenteau has played in 491 games, just nine away from the 500 game milestone, an achievement he will likely reach with the Red Wings if he makes the team. He has scored 114 total goals and has added 182 helpers. In 20 career playoff games, Parenteau has scored two goals and three assists. During Nashville’s run to the Cup Final this season, he played in five games and had zero points. In his career, Parenteau has had two 20 goal seasons and four 40-plus point seasons.

Parenteau has had a history of injuries, some short term, while others have kept him sidelined for extended periods. However, he is still a tough player. He does not let his nomadic career interfere with his play. Parenteau is a reliable and seasoned veteran who can get the job done if need be. He is also a great voice to have in the locker room to help out the younger players. Expect Parenteau to fill in a depth, bottom six forward role with his new team, adding a scoring punch.
