The Tampa Bay Lightning bolstered their goaltending depth with the acquisition of former Arizona Coyotes netminder Louis Domingue. The Lightning sent Tye McGinn and goalie Michael Leighton the other way.

Lightning Acquire Coyotes Louis Domingue
Domingue will likely be used to bolster the Lightning’s AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch. In his seven NHL starts this year, Domingue has been abysmal. His .856 save-percentage, and 4.33 goals-against-average are startlingly low. Domingue usually manages to hover around a .910 save-percentage. According to Corsica.Hockey his -5.63 goals saved above average is fourth worst in the NHL. His -3.48 delta save-percentage (the difference between actual and expected save-percentage) is second worst in the league.
At the AHL level Domingue has seen some succcess. In his previous stint he recorded a .919 save-percentage over 13 games with the Springfield Falcons in 2015-16. In the season prior to that he averaged a .908 save-percentage through 20 games with the Portland Pirates. Both of those seasons are substantial improvements over the .868 save-percentage that 36-year-old Leighton is providing for the Crunch.
The downside for the Lightning is the loss of Tye McGinn. The 27-year-old forward had five points in eleven games for the Crunch and has been a useful veteran on a young team. The other downside for the Lightning is financial. Although they actually gained cap space in the trade – $250’000 worth – they will be spending an additional $700’000 of real money on Domingue’s salary. It’s not a huge hit, but it could play a factor in the team’s ability to bring on players at the tradeline.
For the Coyotes, they shed some money and bring back a former player; albeit a brief one. McGinn was a member of the organization for 18 games in the 2014-15 season. He tallied a just two points in that tenure.
