Radko Gudas Suspended 10 Games, Austin Watson Gets 2 Games

The NHL Department of Player Safety announced a pair of suspensions on Sunday. They came down hard on Philadelphia Flyers defenceman Radko Gudas, giving him 10 games for a slash on Mathieu Perreault in Thursday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets.

The DOPS also announced that Nashville Predators forward Austin Watson was suspended for two games for boarding Colorado Avalanche forward Dominic Toninato on Saturday night.

Radko Gudas Suspended 10 Games

Gudas was assessed a major penalty and game misconduct for slashing on the play. In 17 games this season Gudas has just two points, both of them assists. He has also racked up 56 penalty minutes. The 27-year-old defenceman averages 15:29 of ice time per game for the Flyers. In 286 career games, Gudas has 71 points and 490 penalty minutes.

Gudas is considered a repeat offender under the of the NHL’s Collective Bargaining agreement, leading to the longer than normal suspension. He has already missed one game, Philadelphia’s game against the Minnesota Wild on Saturday. He will forfeit $408,537.00 in salary during the suspension.

Austin Watson Suspended Two Games

Watson was given a major penalty and a game misconduct for boarding on the play. The 25-year-old has played 19 games for the Predators this season. He has one goal and one assist for two points while racking up 33 penalty minutes. The Predators first round pick in the 2010 NHL Draft (18th Overall) has 10 goals and 20 assists for 30 points in 159 career NHL games. He also has 164 career penalty minutes. He has spent his entire NHL career with Nashville.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, Watson will forfeit $11,827.96.
