The St. Louis Blues have announced that defencemen Jay Bouwmeester will miss the rest of the year with a left hip injury and forward Scottie Upshall will be re-evaluated in four weeks with a left MCL sprain. Bouwmeester and Upshall have proven themselves to be key players for the Blues and missing them will take a toll.

Upshall injured his knee and Bouwmeester suffered a lower-body injury in Saturday’s game against the Dallas Stars.

So far this season, Bouwmeester has two goals and five assists for seven points in 35 games played. He also added 16 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers are 48.5 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -5.4.

Over his 15-year NHL career, Bouwmeester has played for the Florida Panthers, Calgary Flames, and St. Louis Blues. He has put up 84 goals and 314 assists for 398 career points in 1,106 career games. He was originally drafted in the first round, third overall of the 2002 NHL draft by the Panthers.

Upshall this season has seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points in 61 games. He also added 46 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers are 46.7 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -5.3.

Over his 15 year NHL career Upshall has played for the Nashville Predators, Columbus Blue Jackets, Florida Panthers, Arizona Coyotes, and St. Louis Blues. He has put up 138 goals and 146 assists for 284 career points in 757 career games. He was originally drafted in the 1st round, 6th overall of the 2002 NHL draft by the Nashville Predators.

With the Western Conference Wild Card race as close as it is right now, these are big blows for the Blues. Bouwmeester has only dressed in 35 games this year, but is averaging close to 20 minutes of ice time when he does dress. Upshall has played in all 61 games for the Blues this year and was currently playing on the fourth line.
