The Carolina Hurricanes have traded goaltender Eddie Lack,defenceman Ryan Murphy and a 2019 seventh round draft pick to the Calgary Flames. In return, the Hurricanes receive defence prospect Keegan Kanzig and a 2019 sixth round draft pick. The Hurricanes will also retaing 50% of Lack’s salary.

Carolina Hurricanes trade Eddie Lack and Ryan Murphy to Calgary Flames
Lack, 29, really struggled last year with the Hurricanes. In 19 games he was 8-7-3 with a .902 save percentage and 2.64 goals against average. During his career he has played for the Hurricanes and Vancouver Canucks. In 135 career games he has a 54-51-18 record with a .911 save percentage and 2.56 goals against average. ]
Lack will likely be the back-up to new Flames goalie Mike Smith. Smith was acquired two weeks ago from the Arizona Coyotes. With Scott Darling now in Carolina, there was no room for Lack. He has one year remaining on his two-year contract, with a cap hit of $2.75 million. The Flames will pay him $1.375 million.
Murphy, 24, is a former first round pick, 12th in 2011, of the Hurricanes. He has not found his place in the NHL. Murphy played in only 27 games last season, picking up just two assists. He has six goals and 37 points in 151 career games. Murphy has one year left on his contract with a $787,500 cap hit.
Kanzig, 22, was selected by the Flames in the third round, 67th overall, of the 2013 NHL draft. He played six games for the Stockton Heat in the AHL picking up two assists. He spent most of the season in the ECHL. Kanzig scored one goal and five points in 40 games with the Adirondack Thunder.
