Jacob Trouba Injured

Trouba was injured during Wednesday’s game after taking a hard hit from Dallas Stars forward Jamie Benn. He didn’t return to the game afterwards.

So far this season, Trouba has scored three goals and 19 assists for 22 points in 52 games. He also added 32 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 50.5% Corsi and a relative Corsi of 0.1%.

What This Means for the Future

Trouba and the Jets have had a rough year on the injury front. For Trouba, This is his second injury this year, as he missed 20 games earlier in the season with an ankle injury. For the Jets, they have lost other players to concussions this year including goaltenders Steve Mason and Michael Hutchinson. They have also lost defenseman Dmitry Kulikov for the year who is out for the year with back surgery.

With the NHL Playoffs set to begin in a few weeks, this injury could end up being crucial to the Jets. Trouba has been playing on the first defensive pairing this year with Josh Morrissey and is averaging close to 22 minutes of ice time per game. The Jets will look to Dustin Byfuglien to take over on the top line during Trouba’s absence. Expect Tucker Poolman to get more minutes down the stretch.

The Jets currently sit in second place in the Central Division behind the Nashville Predators, who have already punched their ticket to the playoffs.
