The Winnipeg Jets have reclaimed forward Marko Dano off of waivers. The Colorado Avalanche had placed Austrian forward on waivers earlier in the week.

Winnipeg Jets Bring Back Marko Dano

Dano has played for the Columbus Blue Jackets, Chicago Blackhawks, Winnipeg Jets and Colorado Avalanche in his five-year NHL career. He has put up 19 goals and 26 assists for 45 career points in 138 career games. The Columbus Blue Jackets originally drafted him in the first round, 27th overall of the 2013 NHL draft.

Dano hasn’t registered a point in games with Colorado this season. Last season he scored two goals and one assist for three points in 23 games. He also added six minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 50.3 percent CorsiĀ and a relative Corsi of 1.3.

Winnipeg assigned Dano to the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League. He was originally waived by the Jets on Oct. The 23-year-old can be moved between the AHL and the NHL without having to go through waivers.

He did not play more than 10 games with the Avalanche and no other team put in a claim for Dano. This allows the waiver exemption.

What This Means for the Future

Dano played more than seven minutes just two times with the Avalanche. Colorado was hoping that Dano would be a good depth acquisition, but he had a hard time getting ice-time. Colorado was able to get their players healthy and there was no place for Dano in the lineup.

Assigning him to Manitoba is a good move because he’ll get playing time and contribute. Winnipeg tried sending Dano to the AHL, but Colorado swooped in and claimed him.

The Jets are hoping Dano can reclaim his form from his solid rookie season in 2014-15 with the Blue Jackets. He collected eight goals and 13 assists for 21 points. Those totals are still career-highs for the Austrian.
