After leaving Buffalo Sabres practice early on Monday, Conor Sheary was a game-time decision for the team’s game on Tuesday night. The Sabres have now announced that Sheary has been placed on injured reserve. Sheary has missed the Sabres’ last two games and will miss his third tonight.

Conor Sheary Placed On Injured Reserve

In 24 games for the Sabres this season, Sheary has six goals and six assists. Sheary was acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins in a deal that also sent the Sabres Matt Hunwick. The Penguins received a conditional 2019 fourth-round pick that could become a third rounder.

Sheary left the ice during line rushes during practice on Monday. He would not return after that. At the time, head coach Phil Housley was very brief on what he saw from Sheary at the time.

“Yes, he did,” Housley said, acknowledging Sheary left the ice early. “Just a little tweak.”

Overall, Sheary has posted 54 goals and 51 assists in 208 NHL games. He has yet to play a full season in the NHL since signing with the Penguins in 2015.

Sheary is not the only injury that the team is currently dealing with, however. The Sabres also placed defenseman Marco Scandella on injured reserve this morning. Scandella had also missed the team’s last two games with what has been described as an upper-body injury. It was said to be unrelated to the injury Scandella suffered while blocking a shot on November 19th.

In 478 career games, Scandella has 33 goals and 83 assists, though has only posted five points in 23 games thus far this season.

In a corresponding move, the Sabres recalled Matt Tennyson from the Rochester Americans. Tennyson has recorded one assist in the AHL thus far. He appeared in 15 games with the team last season, posting six assists in 45 games.

Lawrence Pilut To Make NHL Debut

Aside from the injury news, Sabres prospect Lawrence Pilut will be making his NHL debut as the Sabres take on the Florida Panthers on Friday evening. Pilut will be filling in for Jake McCabe, who suffered an upper-body injury on Thursday night.

Pilut had 22 points in 16 games, tied for third in the AHL, at the time of his recall. He had spent the previous four-plus seasons with HV71 of the Swedish Hockey League where he was named the top defenseman in 2017-18.

The Sabres will look to bounce back as their 10-game winning streak was snapped on Thursday by the Tampa Bay Lightning. They will look to start a new streak against the Panthers. The Sabres currently have the third best record, 17-7-2, in the entire league. They also sit in third place in the Atlantic Divison.
