Florida Panthers Jayce Hawryluk Out with Upper-Body Injury

The Florida Panthers announced that right-winger Jayce Hawryluk is sidelined for at least a month with an upper-body injury.

Jayce Hawryluk Injured

Hawryluk left the game early Monday night against Colorado Avalanche. While in their offensive zone, a Colorado defenceman took a shot from the point that missed the net wide. The puck then continued to roll up the boards where Hawryluk lungs forward to knock the puck out of the defensive zone. Sacrificing his body enable to make the play, he received an enormous hit from Avalanche Defenceman Nikita Zadorov that left him wincing in pain, holding onto his shoulder as he skated slowly back to the Panthers bench.

So far this season, Hawryluk has scored one goal and two assists for three points to go along with four minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 54.8 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of 4.1.

Over his two-year NHL career, Jayce Hawryluk has played only for the Florida Panthers. He has eight goals and seven assists for 15 career points in 50 career games. He was originally drafted by the Florida Panthers in the second round, 32nd overall in the 2014 NHL draft.

What This Means for the Future

With Jayce Hawryluk out for at least a month or so, the Florida Panthers have a few options to replace the third line forward. While it is going to be extremely difficult to replace some of the grit and grind that Hawryluk brings. Joel Quenneville has experimented with placing defenceman Mark Pysyk up at forward.

The Panthers also have the option of recalling forwards Henrik Borgstrom or Owen Tippett from their affiliate team to fill the void. Both Borgstrom and Tippett have been looked at to take the next steps in their careers. It is possible with Hawryluk out of the line-up one of them can stay longer than expected.
