The Winnipeg Jets announced that forward Mathieu Perreault has an upper-body injury and will not play in Tuesday’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Mathieu Perreault Injured

As expected Perreault will not be in the lineup tonight for the Jets. During Sunday night’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers is when the injury occurred. Perreault left the game and did not return after taking a hit from Joel Farabee of the Flyers. As a result of the hit, Perreault needed to be helped off the ice and immediately went to the locker room. The hit resulted in a five-minute major for Farabee along with a three-game suspension from the Department of Player Safety.

The Jets are not saying when the injury is but they are treating it as a concussion. Perreault missed Monday’s practice and was in concussion protocol according to head coach Paul Maurice. Even though Perreault feels good, the Jets are being cautious and rightfully so. The team will take it day by day and will work Perreault in when they see he is ready to go. In 33 games this season, Perreault has 12 points (six goals and six assists).

Looking Ahead

It appears the Jets will go with 11 forwards and seven defenceman for the game tonight against the Hurricanes. However, look for the Jets to call up a forward from the AHL prior to the game on Thursday night against the Chicago Blackhawks. Their AHL affiliate Manitoba Moose play in Colorado tonight and tomorrow.

Joona Luoto draws in with the Perreault injury and will skate on the 4th line with Logan Shaw and Nick Shore. Gabriel Bourque moves up to the 3rd line with Adam Lowry and Andrew Copp.

But like the injuries on defence, the Jets will persevere. Maurice will figure out a way to keep the Jets above water until Perreault returns.
