Jersey Joe Corner Podcast
New Jersey Devils
The show begins with the boys welcoming everyone back and hoping everyone is safe during this time. They welcome their guest to the broadcast and get right into it discussing the Devils season. Alex, Joe, and Jim discuss the moves by former Devils general manager Ray Shero to begin the season. There was a lot of positive energy around the team, then opening night came. From there everything just came unglued.
The boys discuss what was going with Taylor Hall during his final months with the Devils. How injuries finally caught up to him and he was disinterested at times to play for the Devils. The boys discuss how his poor season could reflect on what his value will be for his next contract. Right now with everything going on nobody really knows.
Devils Coaching/GM Options
Jim switches the conversation to who might be the Devils head coach next season. The boys discuss the leading candidates and why they are a good fit. They also look at the resume of interim general Tom Fitzgerald and why he needs to be given serious consideration for the job. Also, the boys bring up the fact the Devils need a similar structure to teams around the league with a President of Hockey Operations. They bring up Mike Gillis‘s name and why he is good for the club. Finally, they get into the mistakes made by former general manager Ray Shero and what led to his firing.
Backup Goalie Options For New Jersey
Joe switches the conversation over to the goalie position for the Devils. Cory Schneider and MacKenzie Blackwood were the starters this season. Alex makes it a point to say this can’t be the same duo for next season. Schneider just unravelled after a good end to the 2018-19 season and a good preseason. The boys look at the best options for the backup goalie position. That is a position the Devils need to address in the offseason.
Jim brings up Kyle Palmieri and his contract. Alex says one of the biggest things that Fitzgerald needs to do if he is the general manager, to make sure he is with New Jersey long term. All three of them agree Palmieri is a perfect fit for the Devils. If Palmieri were to leave, the Devils would have a tough time replacing him. Players like Palmieri do not grow on trees.
The rest of the show the boys dive into the prospects the Devils have and who they think the Devils will take with their respective picks in the NHL Draft.
